We came over from Glencoe via the devils stair case and the WHW and turned right on the Dam access road up to the wall. It’s a little bit of follow your nose below the wall itself to the other side where the short pipeline traverse is obvious
The Ciaran track was seriously demanding, not for the faint hearted and I wouldn’t go near it on a hard tail
Steep, technical, loose at time but bloody brilliant
We have ridden Glentress, Innerleithen and Nevis range on this trip and they were great. BUT if you like your biking wild, exposed and technically demanding this is a great track.
We returned via the Devils staircase and that was an added downhill bonus to finish an epic day

Rain early in the day meant that the areas with moss/algie was slippery and I had to dismount quickly on two occasions! This adds to the excitement of riding along the steep ravine. Technical natural downhill traversing loose rock sections. Forest ride up is steep but straight forward - so if riding single speed like I did, then get the gearing right! Big scenery around and at the Dam. Great ride - recommend to intermediate onwards to tackle. Variableview

So, overall a pretty long, challenging tough but gorgeous ride through proper wild hills.

Breaking it down:
Uphill Access Track:
The uphill leg from Kinlochleven to Loch Eilde Mor is all pretty straightforward hill track/fire road, that winds it's way up & up & up out of the village, but all rideable & not too loose. Gorgeous scenery.

Pipeline Traverse:
Although on paper the Pipeline Traverse pretty much just follows the contour, muscling the bike over the narrow, twisty rough hill track ended up being a pretty serious work-out. The trail was also pretty frequently seriously wet/boggy (15%), meaning hopping on & off the bike loads. Quite a few sections were easier to ride along the top of the giant pipeline than on the path..

The dam at the top is gorgeous and a great place for a swim.

Ciaran Path Downhill:
At almost 5 miles of continuous downhill, with perhaps 70-80% of that entire distance actually black graded, this trail is no joke.

There's mile after mile of sketchy, steep, loose, bouldery decent (60-70%), a fair bit of bog thrown in for good measure, perhaps 10% steep exposed rock slabs, and perhaps 10% of actually flowy trail...

Be warned, don't go anywhere near this if your thing is smooth, manicured flowy trail centre trails...

However, if you like being right up in the hills, and relish a proper technical, physically challenging epic hill ride you're in for a treat!

Several trees have fallen along the path. Large bogs and parts which have totally washed away. It's still usable just expect to have to get off the bike at several points. Icyview

Absolutely soaking for a majority of the way. Some boggy and muddy bits as well, but only in a few sections. Not too overgrown with bracken. Wetview
