Start from the covered bridge parking lot, ride up the North Fork trail to a gravel road climb on FR-1910, then descend Lower Alpine Trail from the intersection with Upper Alpine Trail.
Optional cutoff on NF-683 to shorten the route to about 16 miles, meeting the trail at the intersection by Buckhead Shelter.
Or continue up FR-1911 to Upper Alpine or further to lengthen the route.
