On the edge of The Lowther Hills this route takes in a network of estate tracks to give you some stiff climbing challenges, fast descend and sweet views across the Southern Uplands and beyond. Park anywhere on the minor road and join the route in a clockwise direction. Take the farm track at Garroch Water and soon after go through the gates on your left to join the track running parallel to the small river. The track fords the river and climbs up a short steep section with loose surface. In approximately 1 km take the track to your right and continue to climb uphill. In just under 1 km the track swings left and climbs steep uphill to Garroch Fell. At 606m most of the climbing is done, the hilltop track contours round the hillside and the final gradient takes you up to Gana Hill at 668m in just under 2km time.
The rough double track descend to Hard Hill and takes in some nice sequences of corners before levelling out and traversing around Haggie Hill. Watch the navigation here and avoid taking the track that drops you downhill to Chapel Burn
The track climbs up slightly before descending down to the burn and crossing over it. A short climb will bring you up to a well used double track that links to the minor road past Mitchellslacks.
