Not well maintained near the peak of Beards Mountain, but the section from Gillam Run to the northeast is good, especially the final mile which is steep and fast. The best way to ride this could be as an out-and-back starting by climbing Beards Mountain Spur from the Cowpasture River and Walton Tract, then climb southwest on Beards Mountain to an overlook or to Gillam junction, then reverse the route but make sure to drop down and climb back up the final half mile of Beards Mountain Trail because that's the best part. Another option is a loop including Gillam Run accessed via Road 361 near Douthat.

Great shape considering no one rides this. Could see it getting overgrown by June.
