Fern Loop has some pretty steep and tight switchbacks on the south side. Upper Fern which is the west side runs along the top of a ridge and is pretty mild. Lower Fern which runs along the east side is rocky and has some steep but short technical climbs.
Fern Loop can be accessed from the south side of the parking lot at the visitor center or from the bottom of the Settler Loop just across the creek.
