The trail starts from the western edge of the old settlement Makario. The first part is relatively narrow and flat with a tight switchback that leads to a technical rocky section that requires balance to keep the flow. This leads to the second part starting with an off camber section in the woods with a nice downward slope and several steep and technical passes and ends up at a high speed tunnel-like section leading to a flat pine forest. After the pines are passed there is the third part of the trail starting with a very steep section which is mostly loose and dry and is very hard to find a nice grip so it requires a lot of caution. The end of the trail follows up with a flow singletrack. Since this trail is used also for hiking riders must be careful for hikers climbing up.

Access Info

The start of the trail is at the edge of an old abandoned settlement called Makario which now is actually a large sheep pen. The access to that place is a bit complicated from the city of Xanthi, one has to take the road north that goes to Drama through the mountains and at the 5.5th km should turn left to the direction of Pilima, which is a small village 4km of the turn. Then one has to cross the village going northwest to find a dirt and gravel road leading to Makario. In order to avoid running into the shepherd's dogs all the time, we have made a deviation from that road which climbs the top of the hill just before someone reaches Makario and traverses all the way to the start of the trail. In general it is not straightforward and foreigners are encouraged to ask guidance in order to reach the start of the trail.
