The Hirtensteig was paved by huge concrete blocks with plenty of holes for grass to grow. As part of the former inner German border it was used for military vehicles, so it's better known as "tank route" or "Panzerplattenweg".
Although it is not a typical MTB Trail, the iconic pavement and the straight steep route up the mountain makes it a must-ride. You can either push up that hill very hard or get your disc brakes heated up on descent, you will love a downhill setup on that easy path.

Starting from the top, it's the other descent, not the one with the train station.
Going uphill, you start at Ranger station Scharfenstein

Covered in snow, with steep 16% sections you can't ride up anymore (tested). And for downhill skiing would be better the better option
