The Jumbo Backbone trail climbs up above the "L" through a series of switchbacks eventually gaining the ridge line and following it across open slopes to the Mount Jumbo summit. From the top there are excellent views of the Missoula area and the peaks that surround it. Beyond the summit the trail drops quickly into the tress on a double-track path and follows the ridge to the Mount Jumbo saddle area.
