The Lava Falls Trail is located on the youngest lava flow in the monument and the region. This area offers a chance to see many lava features including ropy pahoehoe (pronounced pah-HOY-hoy), squeeze-ups, and other geological curiosities. The trail is a rough 1 mile loop marked by cairns, or small rock piles.
Please be prepared before setting out on this or any other hike. Remember to look for the next cairn before leaving the one closest to you. Hiking here with your pets is not advised.
The trailhead has pit toilets and picnic tables.
