Matrasse est un sentier emblématique de la vallée d'Aure, dont les origines remontent au début des années 1990.

À cette époque, il accueillait une manche de VTT cross-country réputée pour son caractère particulièrement exigeant : de longues montées très raides et des descentes techniques et naturelles, bien loin des standards des circuits XC européens de l'époque.

Après plusieurs années d'abandon, le sentier renaît en 2008 sous l'impulsion de Stéphane Ribet, à l'occasion de la création de l'Enduro d'Aure. Matrasse change alors de vocation et devient un secteur incontournable de cette nouvelle génération de courses d'enduro.

En 2012, lors de sa création, l'association MTB TRAILS 65 prend en charge l'entretien régulier du sentier afin de préserver son caractère et sa qualité de pilotage.

Fermé durant les saisons 2023-2024, Matrasse fait l'objet d'un important chantier de restauration entre l'automne 2025 et le printemps 2026, entièrement réalisé par les bénévoles de MTB TRAILS 65. Le chantier a nécessité l'évacuation d'un imposant chablis (arbre déraciné), l'abattage de nombreux arbres tombés, ainsi qu'un important travail de façonnage manuel à la pioche pour redonner vie au tracé historique.

Aujourd'hui, Matrasse offre de nouveau une descente exceptionnelle : un sentier naturel, varié et engagé, devenu l'un des plus beaux itinéraires VTT de la vallée d'Aure. Un véritable bijou façonné avec passion par des bénévoles.
