Mina Escondida Details
This is a short out-and-back off of the Tanque Tierra Loop. The trail is not maintained, nor has it been used as a road in 50 years. The Mina Escondida was operated for a brief period in the 1960s. The Railroad Commission has yet to fill in the shafts, as of 2014. The main reason I give this a Black Diamond rating is the remoteness and dangers associated with the desert.
Watch for the turn on the Tanque Tierra Loop.
WARNING NO WATER, NO CELL, NO HELP! Mines are inherently dangerous, do not approach openings in the ground or abandoned equipment. There may be poisonous gases emitted from shafts, and there is no chance of rescue from falls within mines.
