Solid trail, especially considering the vert to distance ratio. If you leave from the trailhead, expect 4,000ft and 3.5 miles each way. Great views and solid vista from the saddle 3,500ft up for folks not looking to do the 3rd/4th class scramble at the park end. A must do hike in Salt Lake!

So there are a few reasons for the discrepancy. The first part of the hike that is part of the BST is not included in the distance. The track of this follows the average path taken by most hikers and does not take into account personal deviations or elevation gain. If you had recorded your hike I could look at the trace and determine why they were different. In reviewing a lot of tracking devices, phones, wristwatches, we often find they bounce around and tend to over record. All the tracks in Trailforks are smoothed averages of many devices, to eliminate satellite drift, and the problems we often find with dense forest and cliffs playing havoc with GPS signals.

If you submit your recording as a Hike Log, I'd would be happy to analyze it to see what happened. I am also bring this up to the development team, to better capture elevation gain and to overcome smoothing techniques that may be effecting real-life distance

This trail is 4.0 miles each way, 4,000+ elevation gain! Total time was 4.5 hours and we were going about the same as most of groups (kept leap frogging each other during breaks). The trail info on this app is seriously wrong and deceptive.
