Trail follows up the South Fork of State Creek and makes a summit at the old Mountain Queen Mine, before dropping back down. There are some remains of past diggings but nothing terribly exiting. There may have been a couple of old cabins that were destroyed by a forest fire in 2020.
The trail surface is more earth and rocks on the north side, and sand with ruts on the south side. On a mountain bike it is easier to ride from south to north, as the steepest gradients found near the top of the north side will likely have you pushing your bike for a bit.
