Lungo e interessante itinerario, tra aperti pascoli e comode stradine militari, che percorre quasi interamente le dorsali che contornano a mezzogiorno la Val Sorino, a cavallo con la Val Bagolino. Il percorso inizia da Faserno, località di baite e seconde case sulla montagna di Storo, raggiungibile con strada asfaltata di 15 km che, da Cà Rossa, risale il monte con innumerevoli tornanti. Lungo la strada che conduce alla Colonia, dal tornante sotto la chiesetta, si risale brevemente il soprastante dosso erboso imboccando poi la strada forestale Cravacior che si inoltra in un bosco di grossi abeti e percorre in quota, il fianco settentrionale del Dosso della Croce passando per le vallette di Casina Merla e Aosta. Dopo un paio di tornanti si contorna un largo costone boscato e, arrivati nella radura dove termina la strada, si continua su sentiero che, dopo la salita di Cravacior, esce sul costone che si affaccia sui pascoli di Vacil. Un breve traverso in quota, fra i radi larici, porta alla Malga Vacil posta al centro di un estesissimo alpeggio, dove la vista si allarga sull'intero orizzonte. Da qui, guidati dai picchetti segnavia, si percorrono i vastissimi pascoli del Dosso Rotondo, passando accanto alla recinzione di un importante sito archeologico dell'età del bronzo. Comincia ora il lungo tratto su una larga e comoda mulattiera ex militare che si alza a scavalcare il crinale, e taglia poi gli assolati versanti erbosi del Col delle Perpetue e del Dosso di Portole. Valicato il Passo di Val Marza rivolti sul versante di Bagolino, si volge a N, calando gradatamente al Passo delle Cornelle, storico punto di transito tra la Val del Caffaro e la Val Sorino, dove arriva anche l'itinerario 259B. La mulattiera si alza progressivamente per aperti pascoli fino al Dosso Trabucù e, attraversato in quota il fianco orientale del Dosso Trabacone, costeggia poi l'erbosa dorsale, tenendosi poche decine di metri sotto il crinale e, con largo giro, raggiunge il bivio con l'itinerario 258, poco sotto il Passo di Brealone.
