Segundo moradores da região, a trilha recebe este nome pois nela existia um forno para queimar cascas de ostras e berbigões, com as quais se fazia cal usada na construção de casas. Segundo relatos, esta trilha existe há pelo menos 100 anos, ela servia de passagem dos moradores da praia do Sambaqui para o outro lado do morro na comunidade da Barra do Sambaqui. Nela passavam pedestres, cavalos e carros de bois, o principal transporte de cargas da época. Hoje em dia ela ainda é muito utilizada pelos moradores, fazendo a travessia a pé, além de servir para a passagem do gado que puxam nos carros de bois na tradicional Festa do Divino Espírito Santo, na época da Páscoa. Há relatos de ciclistas frequentando a trilha desde a década de 1990, sendo que a partir de 2016 e 2017, com a realização da primeira e da segunda edições do XCO Ilha da Magia, o número de praticantes de mountain biking aumentou signitivamente.

Essa trilha inicia na Servidão Osvaldo da Rocha Pires e segue em meio à mata. A trilha em quase toda a sua extensão possui 5 m de largura, em boa parte margeada de cercas delimitadoras.
