Another alternative to the stairs and/or the steep section of the paved path. The trail is divided in two sections.

Lower section:
A gentler climb than the paved path just beside. It also fun to decent and will allow to avoid pedestrian traffic from the maim path. That segment is truly both directions, all year round.

Upper section:
A very difficult climb and aside from the angle, traction can be lacking and the trail becomes narrow and deep making it hard to manoeuvre in the sketchiest section where you have to choose between three distinct parallel lines. Going down is okay but not a blast.

Winter :
When the Black Stairs Side Trail becomes too icy to ride, this is your alternative if you want to avoid the stairs. The top can get cover with snow and a little hard to identify but there are usually enough tracts to guide you in the right direction. Of course heavy snow will sometimes require you to make first tracts. Climbing the upper section in the winter is not an option.
