Taliesin is a fairly mellow access trail into the larger McDowell Sonoran Preserve, or a good neighborhood ride if you live in the area. It makes a nice shorter loop when combined with Quartz trail. The trail has some rocky sections, but overall this is one of the easiest trails in the Preserve.

Access Info

You can catch it at the indicated start point on the map, but the closest trailhead is Westworld. Alternatively, start from the golf course parking lot at 105th St and Sheena.

2.5 miles (dirt with some rocks) from base to apex at sustained grade. Been my training hill... 1st time in June took me 45 minutes and 4 rest breaks - now my best is 24 min no breaks and still not in lowest gear. Downhill is FAST on slick rocky slope so make sure brakes are good!

Great trail to connect to lost dog and sunrise. Mellow gradients and minimal rocks(by McDowell standards) make for a great scenic climb to the viewpoint. Still not a suitable trail for nervous beginners
