This non-motorized trail is the old Forest Service trail along the phoneline that historically ran up to Lake Mountain. For mountain bikers, this trail is primarily ridden as a downhill and makes a great extension to the Lake Mountain Trail. This trail is also a great hiking trail through a cool forest. Off the top, watch for a couple of unmarked trail junctions. The upper half has some fairly steep sections with nothing too technical. This part of the trail passes through a thick lodgepole stand where deadfall is likely if it hasn’t been cut out recently. The forest then opens up a bit, and the trail becomes more primitive as it drops steeply down to an old mid-slope road bed. At the road bed, take a hard right and follow the road for about 200 feet, where you will find the trail dropping off the road and continuing down the drainage. From here down, the lower half of the trail is fun, fast, and flowy as you cruise through the big trees in this cool, shady canyon. Keep in mind that when the cows are in, it’s considerably less fun, as the cows love to hang out in the cool shade of this nice canyon by the stock tank along this trail.
