A narrow, rooty, pedally, native forest singletrack with creek crossings that winds its way down toward Takaka. The first 5km of track rolls gently downhill with some pedalling required through rock garden sections and a few mostly rideable creek crossings. The last 1km of track loses elevation much more quickly.
Links on to the Pack Track, Great Expectations and The Klicks. Well worth making a day out of it.
Access Info
At the top of Takaka hill, turn onto Canaan road and continue to the carpark at the end. Turn right and ride up the 4wd track and left onto the Rameka track.

Epic trail. Rooty rocky techy stuff. Pedally for the first bit but not annoyingly so. Definitely wouldn’t give it a grade 4, my mate road it on a gravel bike with no suspension in the pouring rain. Solid grade 3

Excellent track. bits of technical sections in places, roots and rocks. few small streams to cross. all more or less rideable, but all easily walked across. the last part - historic Rameka blast - is easier than the level 4 announced. we rode up Takaka Hill... that is tough!

Did this as an out and back from the Canaan/Harwood Hole CarPark. Great fun rooty ride both directions. Easy pedaling both ways and flows great both directions. We rode down to the LRT entrance, then back and around Canaan Loop. Rad local trailbuilers have been building flowy fun new trail bypassing the old 4WD sections. Kudos on great trailbuilding to the local club.. From the top of LRT it was an easy climb back and ride back to Canaan Car Park. We were time limited on this ride. If I do it again it will be an epic from Takaka downtown up the climbing tracks around Canaan and back down to town.
