This trail is usually open from from June until the first big storm in late October. It can access from the Thunder mountain trail head and can be looped by riding up the castle rock trail on the North side of 88. This a difficult dh that starts off with flowing single track on loose small rocks and then gets chunky and technical for the last 2/3. One of the longer and more technical downhills in the region.

An amazing Gem of a trail. One of the most beautiful climbs I have ever done and the downhill is a hoot. Fast flowy parts through wild flowers at the top with epic views, then tons of technical rocks garden through the forest. I posted a video of the trail in the VIDEO TAB. This is probably my favorite ride in the Kirkwood area. I found this more fun than the Silver Fork DH trail but the rocks gardens slightly easier than Silver Fork DH.

This ride is definitely better done by riding up Castle Rock and then up Thunder Mountain to the top and then back down. Can do the last .5 miles as a hike or a bike. The Thunder Mountain DH section of the loop is chewed up. It looks like it gets a lot of horse use so there are lots of loose rocks in-between the larger rock drops. Disappointing but we'll definitely do it the other way some time.

Did this as a loop from Horse Canyon trailhead. The uphill is spectacular, and strenuous. The technical downhill was severely disappointing. Loose dirt on top of whatever, loose watermelon size rocks. If the trail hadn't been destroyed by dirt bikes, it would be nice, so consider this a great trail if you have a motorized bike. It was hard to tell whether the humps under the dust were rocks or roots or dirt. The CCC was out there repairing the trail, but their solutions were definitely not hoping to create a great mountain bike trail. sections of trail were filled in with watermelon size rocks, but not fun to ride. The bottom flowy sections were good. Overall, a great loop, but don't do it hoping for a top of the scale downhill. Compared to other local trails with technical downhill, this is not a great one.
