Upper Hawes starts at the highpoint of Las Sendas and takes you up the mountain on a very steep, loose and poorly routed trail. It eventually levels off and gradually drops to the intersection of Cactus Garden and Mid Hawes Trail. Leave this 1.0 mile section of the Hawes Trail to the hikers, it's pretty unenjoyable on a mountain bike.

Az1le and Stumped86 got it right. This is actually pretty fun trail with a little bit of everything. Solid Hawes black but nothing you can’t step off and ride and nothing super high consequence (snapped off my rear brake lever at the top and was still able to ride most of it down). It’s short but super fun to come down from cactus garden towards the road 🤘🏼

There are some mixed reviews but this can be a super fun trail if your ready for it. I'd say it's fairly a rated as a single black. If your cruising the tech features and switch turns come at you fast. Tight trail in most places too. Fun if you don't mind kitty litter. Welcome to Hawes.

To the guy who said it's a double black - it ain't. It's a "black" for the Hawes area, at most. It's got some pretty tight technical stuff especially when going in the direction from Cactus Garden down to the road, but no exposure, no real huge obstacles. If you are an intermediate rider you'll have no problem. Just watch out for hikers. Fun trail!
