Upper Riptide is a machine-built MTB-specific flow trail built by Greater Portland NEMBA & Maine Trail Builders in 2026, in partnership with Portland Trails. It's adaptive friendly, approachable for young kids up to expert adults, and features berms, rollers, step downs, step ups, and a really rad log skinny-to-jump as an A line to start the trail, with a big cannon log or step up jump to finish the section. It is a one way trail, and all features are rollable or have ride-arounds (step up at end has ride around rider's left).
After the step up, Upper Riptide cliimbs up to regain the ridge and allows for a brief rest before you cross the multi-use trail (watch out for other trail users) and drop into Lower Riptide
Major thanks to GPNEMBA members, the Maine MTB Trail Fund and the Harkleroad & Lawless families for funding this incredible project
**Remember that everywhere else in Fore River Sanctuary is multi-use trail -- yield to slower users!
