The nearby mining company was scraping the dust away and spreading gravel the day I rode the trail, but it's still brutal to climb in spots--we're talking over a half foot of flour-like bone-dry dust. We started at 6:00 am in the dark, and it was cool and nice most of the way up, above the tree line it was warm. The descent was warm, but the trail is in the shade much of the time.
