May 29, 2024 @ 2:25pm May 29, 2024 | mtb As they are thinning the trees around Pine, there are a few trees over the trail and a long section that is trashed near Good Enough (coming up from the south). From the AZT trailhead to Good Enough, the trail is great (aside from the postholes made by the horses when they apparently rode in the wet). | Dry | view

May 23, 2024 @ 12:18pm May 23, 2024 | mtb Posting some trail details because I was curious about the recent trail improvements and I know others are as well. Rode Pine TH to Geronimo TH and a bit past. Mostly machine rebuilt route is solid. Don't expect Prescott quality but this is some of the best I've ridden near Payson. Solid blue backcountry xc route. Some pines/shade and some scrub oak. Needs more tires on some of it to buff out elk damage when it was wet. Last mile (from 8 to 9) has not seen machine attention and is black level and a bit overgrown but then ends in a lush stream crossing. Went a bit past Geronimo to the east and that looked nice for next time. Pine trailhead itself is closed for logging but the sign specifically says Highline is open so just park across the street. | Unknown | view
Oct 9, 2023 @ 7:11pm Oct 9, 2023 | mtb Trail in relatively good condition. A few soft spots from recent rain but I’m sure they’ll be excellent in a day or two. Beware of barbed wire fence gate about 1.5 miles south of Strawberry. Otherwise, excellent trail that has some technical bits that were a bit challenging for a relatively new rider. | Variable | view

Jul 15, 2019 @ 6:14am Jul 15, 2019 | mtb Area is getting frequent light rain, parts of trail eroded and muddy. More challenging than description and pix suggest, but worth another trip. I had a late start out of Phoenix and bailed out through the subdivision. | Variable | view
Jul 29, 2018 @ 2:53pm Jul 29, 2018 | mtb Only two very small mud spots at the North end of the trail. No rain that afternoon. Trail wasn't dusty and nicely packed from previous rains. Lots of Elk and some Deer on the trail. | Dry | view

Jan 15, 2018 @ 8:57pm Jan 15, 2018 | mtb Fun trail, challenging and rocky in parts, nice and flowy in others. Overall great ride and worth the trip from Phoenix. | Dry | view
Nov 13, 2017 @ 1:26pm Nov 13, 2017 | mtb Upper miles 1-3 miles has 97% unrideable switchbacks and many downed tree's and rock fall that leads to many hike-a-bike off the saddle. After Bearfoot Trail ties in, it becomes well maintained and 100% rideable fun. Fall color is in full effect. Also the sign at the top of the switchbacks is false claim of 8 miles to Pine TH, strava had us at around 12 miles shown on here is 10 miles. | Variable | view
Sep 11, 2017 @ 2:08pm Sep 11, 2017 | mtb Very rocky and bits of hike a bike | Dry | view

May 23, 2017 @ 11:00am May 23, 2017 | mtb Update to my Sept. 18, 2016 report. The portion of the trail that was unrideable has been rerouted & is in the process of being redone. I talked with Alan, from the Pine/Strawberry Fuel Reduction Team & he said a 1.5 miles section from the "Good Enough" Trail, north towards BearFoot trail, has been recently rerouted & they are in the process of finishing it up. So it should make for a pretty decent trail once they finish it. See the Pine Strawberry Fuel Reduction website for updates & new trail in the area. | Very Dry | view
May 11, 2017 @ 7:09pm May 11, 2017 | mtb Overgrown vegetation, erosion from recent rains...this trail essentially follows the creek, sometimes riding in the creek. No water currently but lots of obstacles and overgrowth. Not rideable or enjoyable. AZT Hardscrabble Mesa trail marker/trail nowhere to be found. My recommendation is to avoid this trail. | Dry | view
May 8, 2017 @ 4:17pm May 8, 2017 | mtb Great trail...flowy and fast. | Dry | view
May 6, 2017 @ 10:39pm May 6, 2017 | mtb All clear...little difficult to find as the trail entrance is unmarked off the 87. Vegetation is impressive and ever changing. Terrain is smooth with hills and switchbacks...some loose rock. All rideable. | Dry | view
May 4, 2017 @ 8:25pm May 4, 2017 | mtb Another grueling grind. Entrance off Tonto drive is literally someone's drive way. Spoke with the home owner... really nice. This trail is well manicured. | Dry | view
May 4, 2017 @ 8:20pm May 4, 2017 | mtb Rideable and very rocky/technical. Not a double black. Trail has lots of growth and is barely visible. | Dry | view
May 4, 2017 @ 8:19pm May 4, 2017 | mtb This trail is a grind going west to east. Dry and dusty. Very rideable. | Very Dry | view
Oct 30, 2016 @ 7:52pm Oct 30, 2016 | mtb AKA Good enough trail, I only took this trail up (from the neighborhood to Pine Canyon Trail) very tough with lots of hike a bike. Coming the other direction it would be a fun down hill for skilled riders or some HAB for less skilled. This trail is a good bail point for those on the Pine Canyon trail needing to head back to civilization quickly. | Dry | view
Sep 18, 2016 @ 4:50pm Sep 18, 2016 | mtb Update to below - 2019: The Trail has been rerouted from the Pine Trailhead to BearFoot & is really nice now. Finally got a chance to go back & try the lower portion of #26 this past weekend. WHAT A NIGHTMARE.... We started at the top of the Bearfoot trail & rode it down to Pine Canyon. The new bridge at the bottom of Bearfoot, that the Pine-Strawberry Fuel Reduction Team built is very nice. (Bearfoot is a good Trail, if you haven't tried it" BAD NEWS: After you cross the Bridge & go down 26 towards Camo LoMia you start a LONG, HARD climb back up the mountain to get back to the Pine Canyon Trail-head. The beginning of this section is rideable, but pretty steep. It's about a 500ft climb in 1 mile, according to Strava & Garmin. After that, the trail becomes un-rideable. I'm not sure why this trail is even on trail forks due the the terrible conditions in the next 3 miles of this trail towards the Pine Trail-head. IN that 3 miles you will climb another 200ft. This should be a hiking trail, not a bike trail. You literally have to carry your bike/hike-a-bike for about the next 3 miles until you get to the Wild Bill Spring, where the trail comes to a "Y" We thought we should have turned right to get back to the Trail-head, turns out we were wrong, brings you down a pretty rough trail, into a neighborhood. So we never got to finish the last couple miles back down to the Pine Trail-head. So, Im still not sure how the Trail condition is from Pine Canyon Trail-head up to the Wild Bill Spring. I will add the Wild Bill Spring trail to TrailForks, so no one else makes a wrong turn. | Very Dry | view
Apr 29, 2016 @ 6:26pm Apr 29, 2016 | mtb Trail is a blast not ridden much but very nice pedalled up got stuck in a downpour and had to go back down. Well done pine I will be back! | Variable | view
Aug 10, 2015 @ 7:14pm Aug 10, 2015 | mtb We shuttled to the top, the pull-off is between MP279 & 280. Parked the other vehicle at the bottom at the Pine Trailhead, just south of Pine. The Trail starts off with some Gnarly Double Black Diamond switch backs. Had to be the Rockiest trail I ever rode, had to get off & hike the bike in a couple spots. Once you get done with the downhill rocky switchbacks the trail gets a little easier to ride. The only bad parts was all the downed trees, it seemed like we were getting off our bikes every 1/8 mile to climb over a log. That's about the 1st, 2 miles of the trail. Once you get to the spot to cross Pine Creek, the trail is awesome for the next couple miles. It reminded me of all those awesome bikes trails we see on You-Tube of the Pacific North West. Awesome dirt, ferns, fast & flowing, in the shade of the tall pines... Then you get to the turn off before Camp LoMia, this is were the current map on Trails Forks is incorrect. You start a pretty good climb up some annoying switchbacks. 6/20/2016-UPDATE... TrailForks map is now correct, it shows the switchbacks at the bottom near Camp LO MIA where the trail was re-routed | Variable | view |
