SaveRainbow Mountain is the home of a technically challenging mountain bike ride. Rainbow Mountain gets it's name from the multi coloured soil that is the result of minerals found in this geothermal area. The mountain bike track loop ride takes riders past green volcanic lakes, steaming cliff faces, red and yellow thermal banks, ancient native trees, thermal pools, and interesting plants that grow in the thermal soil.
The 10km mountain bike loop track is very technical and suitable for advanced riders only. This mountain bike loop track consists of 3 parts:
Te Tihi O Ruru - the uphill section
Te Ranga - the downhill section
Te Ara Ahi - the traverse at the bottom
