Trail Middle Gate
Great way to get a bit more fun after 50 year, if you don't mind a bit more climb. Also cuts off a lot of the boring stuff down low on the way back to the car

Trail The Chutes
This is the best trail in Tucson in terms of flow. Mostly downhill, excellent wide sweeping bumpy berms (one of the few places around where you can really lean into your turns), speedy ridge-line riding, and even some opportunities for air time. If the local MTB community could get traction in digging this to be 10 times longer, it would undoubtedly be nationally ranked. Unfortunately, for now it is still a sub 2 minute DH trail. Also the optional gap at the beginning is no joke.

Some is fun, some is complete crap. It's a long trail, depends on which sections you ride and in which direction.

It is ok if you like riding dry wash outs. Only a mile long, so it’s something to tag on to another ride out there.

Just rode this 9/24/2021 and I’d highly suggest long pants and long sleeve shirt, the overgrowth was pretty gnarly. Near the end where it splits off to the double black rock slab section, the main trail disappears into the brush and is very, very hard to follow. It is completely washed out and nearly unrideable, sadly. Needs a ton of work. Your only real rideable option is to do the big slabs which isn’t necessarily a bad thing Smile

Wish I would have read this before heading out there! Bumped into another guy who had walked back and forth many times trying to find to trail. I started down 50-yr slabs, looked really nice, but then hiked back since my Wahoo nav said I was off. The two off us walked down the end of 50-yr north, it sucked. Just go down 50-yr slabs (even if you have to walk some). The SE end of this trail is completely overgown and ends in a wash of loose pea-gravel.

Going clockwise, Watch out for the fence across the trail near the northernmost part of the trail just after passing "around the Mountain" Trail. It's after a tight corner and a bush mostly blocks early view of it, as of Oct 2019

Great fun. Like a bobsled course for mountain bikes. We ended up doing it twice. Pretty unique so something to make sure and do if you visit Tucson.

Trail The Chutes
Super fun, short swoopy ride! Think Jurassic park water slides without the water. Love it! We started at the 50 year trailhead, rode to The Chutes then back down 50 year for an 11km romp. Great for an early eve ride or loop it twice to get those miles in.

This trail has an excellent variety of terrain and features, but is currently rutted out in places from rain and in need of some maintenance.

Significant areas with grass overgrowing the trail and some erosion ruts. Still rideable, still fun, just not the ripper it usually is. Beautiful out there though!
