Please note that at the time of this writing (May, 2019) that the Schultz Creek and Rocky Ridge trails are closed for logging. Please start at Buffalo Park and ride north on the AZT until you turn right on Pipeline road.
The goal of the Flagstaff Loop Trail is to provide an exceptional multi-use, non-motorized recreational experience close to the urban fringe. The trail will offer improved connectivity within our community while providing a safe and inviting transportation alternative.
When completed the 42 mile trail will circumnavigate Flagstaff, providing access from all areas of the city. The concept is that of an outer wheel surrounding Flagstaff, with the linking trails acting as spokes entering the city (the Flagstaff Urban Trail System). The wheel will then link to the communities outside the city limits and to the network of Forest Service trails, including the Arizona National Scenic Trail. The Loop Trail will utilize a variety of Forest Service trails, abandoned roads, the Flagstaff Urban Trail System, State Land department trail easements and the Arizona Trail.

Detailed Description
Flagstaff Loop Trail is a 44 mile popular intermediate route located near Flagstaff Arizona. This mountain bike only route can be used both directions and has a hard overall physical rating. This route includes 45 trails. This route climbs 3,008 ft with a max elevation of 7,444 ft then descends -3,057 ft.

The South section of the trail, Airport Section, needs some attention with signage “Loop Trail”. I started on pipeline in the east side of town and that makes it kind of difficult for water. There’s a store at S. Woody Mountain rd. And Rt 66 that will supply food and water and there’s another store near hwy 180 and Mt Elden rd. The trail is pretty challenging some sections are chunky and some of the downhills are steep although an intermediate rider can easily handle this ride. It took me 51/2 hours to complete with some shady breaks along the way. A 2 day bike packing trip would be ideal for this route. Rating this trail with colors doesn’t really interest me, I feel as if a rider can’t handle some of the features “ There’s no shame in hike a bike” Hope this comment really helps your decision on accepting the challenge….Oyeah always remember that if you can’t complete in one day there’s always main highways to have some easily pick you up and my Phone kept service throughout the entire ride. Go Get It!

Fun ride, but long and in some areas, technical. I’m not slow, but it took over 5hrs to finish. That being said, pack a lunch. Also, the specific route isn’t always clearly marked. I kept TF up the entire ride, just to confirm the route.
