This fun little loop at West Mag is a great introduction to the area. It's beginner friendly, but there is some elevation gain and a couple tricky rocks and roots to navigate. There's some bailout points to the road should it prove to be too long or difficult for new riders.
Start at the center parking lot, 1 mile down Haul Rd from the Peak to Peak highway. From there, head west on Observatory trail. Just short of a mile, Observatory intersects the road again. Don't cross, look for the singletrack to your left and continue on Shortstack. This trail climbs a little, then hits a meadow with great views before crossing a road again. Then you'll go through an old campsite, stay on the trail to the left. Now you are on Hobbit trail. This section is the most technical of the ride with the most rocks and roots. Wind your way through Hobbit and stay right to continue on Re-Root. If you are up for a challenge, look for the 4 alternative lines on Re-Root (marked on the map), definitely for expert riders. You'll cross Haul Rd again, look for Re-Root to continue on the left side of the private driveway. The trail crosses the driveway again, stay on the trail please. You'll end up almost back to the Peak to Peak highway, make sure to make the left turn onto Aspen Alley.
Aspen Alley climbs again to a clear cut meadow. Enjoy the view, then enjoy the berms and bumps down the hill. If you like the flow line, take a right on Handshake and then anothe right on SuperVü and climb back up to the meadow and repeat as necessary. If you are ready to get back to the parking lot, make a left on Handshake, then you'll be back to your car.
