The Blue Mesa Loop offers riders unique views above the Narrows section of Hwy 141 south of Gateway and the Sew Em Up Mesa WSA directly across the Dolores River. This demanding loop is best done in a counterclockwise direction from the trailhead where you will get much of the elevation gain completed early. This is an unmarked trail so riders need to pay attention to the terrain and trail intersections. Look for rock cairns at intersections. Once on top of the mesa, riders will head in a NW direction while heading to the west side mesa rim. The two track will change to lesser used drill roads as you head north, eventually ending into a cow trail which parallels the rim in a wooded area before dropping down about 200 ft to the visible two track. This track will loop back to the trailhead on the west side bench on a mostly downhill course. Carry a map and plenty of food and water. Trails can become impassible when wet.
Follow CR P12 up from Hwy 141 near Mesa Creek 1 and1/2 mile to the trailhead on the left.
West End roads can become impassible when wet but can dry quickly.
