Chipmunk is basically three trails. The first section is between Bobcat Trail and Spruce Pond Road. It starts flat, crosses a stream, climbs past the old Leavitt family cemetery, drops gradually through a rocky section, crosses a boardwalk and two bridges, before it climbs a rooty stretch to Spruce Pond Rd, The next section is predominately a climb, with several rocky technical spots that reaches its high spot just west of the junction with Podunk Road and Bear HIll Camp Rd. Many people ride up to the road and either pick up Bear HIll Trail to descend towards Hayes Field or head south on Hall Mountain Marsh Trail. The third section is a fun gradual downhill run that meets Broken Boulder Trail, just west of its intersection with Podunk Rd. From here, either descend Broken Boulder, take Podunk Rd south to access the trails in the southernmost area of the park, or take Podunk Rd north to return to the northern section of the park.
