Cicada trail is part of the larger Sarlacc route still currently under construction. This upper portion of the route gives riders a nearly 4 mile singeltrack bypass of the Edge loop road (aka Garfield Mesa Rd) and when the final piece of Sarlacc construction is complete, will allow riders to access one of the longer single track loops available in the valley. Built with motorized funding sources, Cicada was opened the summer of 2019 in partnership with the BLM, Copmoba and local off-road motorcycle groups. As such this trail is shared motorized use, and is therefore also open to E-bikes. Cicada ridden from west to east is a rolling climb with several punchy uphill corners. It is fairly easy terrain with nothing too rocky or technical. The trail surface is still fairly soft and sandy, but should pack down nicely after a winter season.

Like the Sarlaac Trail, Cicada has a seasonal closure during the winter to protect important wildlife. The trail is closed December 1 through May 1 annually.
