Fernandez Trail Details
Fernandez Trail is a designated "Non-OHV" singletrack route that can be ridden in multiple directions depending on how many miles and feet of climb you wish to endure. This area is a popular OHV motorcycle area and sometimes this trail gets poached by moto-riders that don't understand the concept of "Trails Stewardship." There may be some rutting from motos but it is far lesser traveled by them and maintains a good trail experience for mountain bikers. During dry times corners can be a bit loose as the trail is comprised primarily of decomposed granite. There is a definite "kitty litter" effect on most sections of the trail so have good tires. There are some very punchy climbs and fast, short downhill sections with a few rocky technical features thrown in. Most of these are located on the segment running 'right' or N/NE out of Frii's Camp area to Fernandez Road. Trail conditions are great after rains but USFS typically runs 72 hour closures after rain events so check and plan accordingly.
