A 7km riverside ride from Bannockburn Bridge to Goldfields Mining Centre and Panners Cafe.
This old two way trail has been cleared and reopened over the last two years. It is now clear and rideable on the true left of the Kawarau River. It commences at the parking area near the Bannockburn Kawerau Bridge. It is also accessible from The Lake Dunstan Trail near Cromwell.
The trail ranges from good quality single track to short lengths of rougher 4WD track. Patches of soft loose gravel can be challenging in dry conditions
It passes through historic gold mine workings and scrubby river bank terraces with interesting river views. The trail is also used by walkers, dog walkers and trail runners.
The last 400m of trail to the Goldfields carpark are alongside SH6. Take care with vehicle traffic.
From the carpark area at northern end of Bannockburn Bridge
Take care alongside SH6 for last 400m.
