Lower Châska is a green rated (easier), dual-direction climbing trail.
Châska is the Stoney word for ‘Hawk,’ and is inspired by the hawks noticed during wildlife sweeps. These birds are often seen soaring above the network, and trails were arranged to respect their habitat.
Châska is the main climbing trail for the Black Mountain Trail Network. It is biker and hiker friendly. Whether you pedal, hike or run up the mountain, the route provides a purpose built, climb-orientated trail. Châska has three sections: Lower Châska, Middle Châska, and Upper Châska. Each section passes through one of the 3 main trail junctions of the mountain, and gives options for full or partial laps. Watch for optional side hits and features for extra fun in both directions. See the difference in each section as you move through deciduous forest, into coniferous, and then into the site of the 2022 Black Mountain Fire.
