Remote and lightly-travelled river trail. Follows the Middle Fork of the Willamette River from its headwaters at Timpanogas Lake over 30 miles downriver to near Sand Prairie Campground just above Hills Creek Reservoir. This is a full-day expedition and best ridden as a shuttle in order to get the full trail experience. Ridden that way it is one of the best trail experiences in Oregon.
Despite being mostly downhill on average, many punchy steep climbs will test your endurance. Be prepared about every kind of water crossing imaginable, often including logs or broken and twisted bridges. Also mosquitos at Timpanogas late early in the summer season.
Segments of the trail cross roads and bridges so you will need to pay attention as many intersections are not well-marked. Particularly in the lower sections below Moon Point where the trail flattens out and becomes braided in a swamp/meadow.
