Mountain Mist is a long-time signature trail at Monte Sano State Park for bikers, hikers and trail runners all. It passes the base of the scenic South Plateau bluffs and widens into an old CCC built road to the north. Although currently rated as Black, the trail crosses several distinct zones of topography in the park and could be split into two sections with the southern portion from O'Shaughnessy Point up to the first intersection with The Sinks trail as a rocky and rooty technical Black, and then from there north around to the closed Bankhead Pkwy as more sandy, wider and easier Blue.

Not sure why this trail is a black diamond seemed extremely flat to me. I got on from sinks so maybe the beginning is harder

Yea, the southern half of Mountain Mist has a different character than the trail from sinks to the closed road. there's some tougher moves over rocks on the southern half that the northern half just doesn't have.

I apologize for the lack of specificity - I forgot that there are two Mountain Mist/Sinks intersections. The obstacle tree is on Mtn Mist, south of the southern Mist/Sinks intersection.

The section coming off of South Plateau is very rocky, technical,
