This recreation area is closed to ATVs and is located 10-15 minutes from the cities of North Bend and Coos Bay. There are several trails in the area that are used for horse back riding and maps are posted at kiosks around the recreation area. It is recommended to not stay on these trails and instead head into the open dunes where hoof prints in the sand will not make for such an unpleasant ride. Beware of the frequent colorful locals that use the east side by the DB Western plant as their target range for all sorts of firearms, the right to bear arms is a cherished practice in these parts. This area is best ridden in the wet season of late fall/winter/early spring, especially after/during rain events.

This route posted is only a suggestion and the water table does come up quite a bit during certain times of the year, swamping some of the trails in this area. There are great views of the bay and the ocean to be had from the high points in the area. There is sand road on the other side of the foredune, that is used by four wheel drive vehicles, and this road parallels the beach until it heads to the east and back to the parking area.
