The lower part of the trail traverses through the woods, with nice shade in the summer. The upper part starts crosses meadows, more sun exposed. The vegetation got dense alongside the trail in the meadows, but not to the point that it was difficult to follow the trail.

It gets very steep and loose at the top. Depending on the time of year, there is often snow in the shadows and drifts that cover the trail. The main trail has some nice switchbacks to so the elevation is not to drastic, just before it meets the Desolation Trail
