This is a difficult, though fun, track down to the World War II gun emplacements and bunkers at the southern tip of the Te Kopahau Reserve overlooking Sinclair Head.

From near the southern end of Te Kopahau drop down a 20% slope for 1.2km. Around the bottom of this slope Waipapa West heads off down to the adjacent valley floor - though don't think that's an easy way out. If you're still keen, then continue by going up 50m over the next 0.5km.

Went as far as the steep drop down to the bunkers. Trail riding really well. Double track pretty steep to that section but totally rideable.

Some of the gorse is tricky to ride around, specially while sliding through some of the steeper and rocky sections.

Do not try to ride this track, it is not actually rideable. Not sure how long ago if ever it was... but is not a bike track now (over grown and big land slips).

Like Matt comments below, he was confusing this with Ribs exit.

Disregard the last comment. It is the Ribs 'exit' trail that is not rideabl

 Ribs is fine to ride.

I just rode Ribs today and checked the signs. There is no sign that mentions mountain biking is prohibited. There is a sign that mentions motor bikes are prohibited.

There is a sign on a gate, south of the radar dome. Next to this is a council sign that outlines the Right Of Way along the road, to the top of Ribs. Stay on the road until Te Kopahou trig and you are all good, or else the info on the gate sign applies. Clear as mud huh...
