The MTB Trail south block at 4 km, offers a different riding experience to the north block, with a landscape that primarily consists of grasslands on flat terrain.
Riders should expect to encounter debris and obstacles on the trail, including rocks, sticks, branches, and loose gravel, and are encouraged to ride with caution and within their skill level. Wearing appropriate safety gear, such as a helmet, gloves, and protective clothing, is crucial to minimize the risk of injury.
Despite the challenging flat terrain, the trail offers a unique and exciting experience for mountain bikers looking to explore the natural beauty of the Australian outback. Near the end of the trail, the trail merges into a shared pathway that winds around the dam crossing two footbridges. Please give way to walkers.
The south block is also an excellent spot for night riding, as the clear and crisp night skies provide an ideal venue for stargazing. Riders can enjoy the beauty of the night sky while experiencing the thrill of riding in the dark.
When arriving, there is a large flat car park which also serves as a permitted short-stay over-night caravan parking area. And after a satisfying ride, riders can take advantage of the available facilities and enjoy a picnic or barbecue with family and friends while taking in the serene surroundings. The playground is also a great option for families with young children who may need a break from riding. The picnic facilities include toilets, gas barbeques, picnic shelters, and a children's playground.
In addition to the flat terrain, the south block also includes several MTB features rated blue as suitable for experienced MTB riders, such as small log rollovers, log skinnys, and roll-over mounds. These technical features add an extra level of excitement to the ride and allow riders to hone their skills on more challenging terrain. Extreme caution as there are protruding sharp objects on wood beams.
Overall, the Yornaning Dam MTB Trail south block offers a diverse and enjoyable riding experience for mountain bikers of all skill levels. Its mix of flat terrain and technical features, combined with the picturesque surroundings and the opportunity for night riding, make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to explore the natural beauty of the Australian outback on two wheels.
