Three Bears Trail is rugged, back country style single track. It runs parallel to Bear Valley Road and runs from Smith Trail (North) to Shearer Road (South).
If you use Three Bears from the North, you can use Smith trail to access it by starting from below (Bear Valley Road / Smith Trail) or above (Broad Mountain Road / Smith Trail). Accessing it from above can adds close to a mile of more downhill to the downhill segment of Three Bears (roughly a mile).
The first mile of Three Bears Trail from the North is downhill. The terrain is off camber, rocky, technical with some advanced, optional trail lines. There are many pitchy and steep sections and a pitchy climb or two. The first northern part of Three Bears Trail ends at Lookout Trail.
The builders of this trail refer to it as Care Bear. It is the third bear of the three bears.
To access Three Bears from the North, start from the Bear Valley Road Smith Trail head at the bottom of the mountain or from the Smith Trailhead at the top of the mountain. Smith Trail connects with the northern part of Three Bears.
Cell reception is not likely. Come prepared. Have a plan.
