MRWA builds and manages the McIntosh Run singletrack trails in the 'backlands' area between Herring Cove and Spryfield. https://www.trailforks.com/region/mcintosh-run/
All donations to MRWA through Trailforks are used to build and maintain singletrack. You can also donate or volunteer on the trails through our website. If you wish to support other aspects of MRWA's work, please contact us through our website.
MRWA's broader mission is to preserve the ecological integrity of the McIntosh Run watershed, and provide sustainable low impact recreation to grow both stewardship and healthy human communities. We value landowners, local residents, and the natural environment.
In addition to building and maintaining the singletrack, MRWA:
- holds regular MTB rides and hikes in the watershed
- works with other groups, such as Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia, to bring new groups of people onto the trails.
- built the McIntosh Run Community Trail, a gravel active transportation path along the river that serves the Spryfield community
- advocates for the river through monitoring water quality and sewage management
- holds regular clean-ups of the river, usually in conjunction with JL Isley highschool in Spryfield
- MRWA is a member of, and contributes to, the Halifax Regional Trail Association and the Nova Scotia Trails Federation.
If you would like to participate in any of our current initiatives, or are keen to develop new initiatives that benefit the watershed and residents, please contact us!
