Fun, flow, and a good workout. I ride this CCW. From the parking lot and the McCullough trail ... you're on 601 right away, which is a great warm up climb and fun-semi-tech descent. Connecting from 601 to 701 are a lot of fun sections... Nitro Backside and Flowbee, etc.. 701 is FAST and flowy for the most part with some nice short climbs to keep you honest. Once you're off 701 and on to the 701-610 connector, there are some great twists and quick climb/short fast descents... then BOMB 606 Tons of moto whoops and fast flow to finish this one off as you get back to the McCullough trail and return to the parking lot.

Trail 701 Loop
Rode this for the first time today. Enjoyed the rugged beauty of multicolored rocks you won't find on the front side of McCullough Hills. Surprise find was the view out over the Eldorado Valley. Stop on the plateau at the South end of the ride to take in the view.

Trail 607
I often climb this trail. It is an enjoyable climb for me. I climb it because it takes me the direction I prefer on the 701. It’s not a difficult climb, the views are great and the trail is in good shape.

Trail 607
Agree with prior poster that it’s fun to hit this trail from south to north, as a nice descent through varied terrain and geology. Love hitting 701 loop counterclockwise and then working my way back to McCullough Trail via the 607.

wide open with plenty of climbing regardless of your direction.

Trail 701 Loop
recently rode the 701 loop (counterclockwise) for the first time. intermediate difficulty feels like the proper rating, and it's definitely a cardio workout. the flowing section at the bottom of the loop was the highlight for me.

Take this trail from South to North, opposite as indicated. Much better descent trail than a climber.

As others have said, no very challenging with obstacles, but definitely a great workout and a fun trip back down! And the view is worth it!

I am pretty sure the locals call this "guns and gasoline" from the landmarks at the junction at Rampage which are pretty cool.

Trail Flowbee
Nice easy connector from 701 connector to Purple Nurple/Nitro Backside/Nitro Canyon Wash up. A few slight technical features but plenty of width to choose easier lines.

Trail 701 Loop
I finally rode this trail. It definitely seems way less traveled than any other trail in the system as it is so remote and fun rewards are very limited. The rewards that you get are the view and the feeling of extreme remoteness. You will have very spotty cell service and will likely be the only person in the valley that this trail loops around. If you're looking for an XC workout without any very technical secttions this is king of the area (I cannot speak for small section between 607 and the 607/610 connector). If you want to access this trail the 607 to connectors are pretty technical but if you can get to Purple Nurple/Nitro backside/Nitro Wash up/Flowbee junction that may take less effort. This trail is a bit of a hidden gem but not very well maintained so expect some rough sections and a few spots that may be a bit difficult to find where the trail goes. I took it clockwise and I may take it in the other direction next time, I'm not really sure if the other direction is necessarily any easier. Also there are plenty of cairns letting you know that you're on the correct path.

Not a technical ride at all. If you’re looking for a thrill, you may want to skip this one. You’ll get a decent workout, since it’s pretty hilly.

Trail 607
Finally hit this trail. The climb isn't particularly enjoyable over the first 1.5 miles or so. The views are rewarding. I'm not 100% sure if the route through the fence is legit but its fairly easy to follow.

At the end theres a big gravel mound that looks like a parking area and a gravel road that heads NNW. If you follow that downhill you hit a pea gravel wash thats not impossible to ride through but not enjoyable either and you can re x onnect with "Nitro wash up" however I felt like I wasted my climbing effort by taking this route.

This one seems like it's meant to be taken clockwise. There's a pretty big drop about 5-6' and the ride around is pretty steep and off camber. The drop if I remember correctly is near the top of the hill after the sign that points in 2 directions one says "back side of the mountain". There's a few gnarly roller coasters. Trail is blue with exception of the drop. No real exposure on this trail only perceived.

Trail Nitro Bench
This is a fun ride back towards the McCullough hills trailhead after riding the 601. There's a 3-fork at some point where leftmost is smooth, middle (straight) with rollers and a right fork with a small double (with no clear split) that all meet back up. Theres a Y going uphill that is a bit technical to the right uphill and curves back to the left to meet back up to the main trail. Theres another Y thats smooth to the right and a bit of a roller coaster to the left. This is definitely a great green line that is truly green.

We are out of Pasadena, CA. and wanted a good workout before New Years Eve, without the technical part. Enjoyed the ride a lot. Nice uphill workout, with nice flowing return.

701 Loop
Sep 27, 2022 @ 12:23pm
2 days
Recent rains washed several rocks onto the trail making some short downhill sections very chunky. Riding CCW, at about mile 2.25 & mile 2.75 seem to be the worse. Not really bad but very noticeable.
