Starting at the rarely used William O. Hocking, Jr. Memoral Trailhead, enter F. Gilbert through the easy Cocasset Brook Area. But, be prepared for some tech. This is not an easy loop.

Trail Along the pond SW
I agree with the comments and was here the other day with a novice trail user. I've split the loop around the pond now up in the easier south west (SW) part of the trail trail (still green) and the harder north east (NE) part of the trail (now blue).

That's a good idea. F Gilbert in general rides "above the grade," for many trails.

Trail Foxboro Climb Cat 4 #1
Pretty fun in reverse. You can get some good speed.

Trail Along the pond SW
The north side of this trail is especially fun being very close to the pond. Lots of roots, but mostly straight on.

I think this is a blue trail at most other areas. Actually has that fun short downhill segment in it too.

Trail Along the pond SW
Yeah. I would agree that it should be a blue.

Trail BlackSquid Cutoff
Not sure how to add ride log for a trail you couldn't ride, but this section is unrideable right now due to a number of downed trees.

Trail Moto Trail Connector
Trail has been badly battered by moto-riding. Tons of large exposed jagged rocks. More of a black diamond now.

Trail Pine Climb
This is a super fun ride for intermediates and above, the type of trail that you will get better on and have a great time doing it. Either direction is a good time, but as the name infers ... the intended direction is uphill.

With the major blowdowns now history, this trail is a lot of fun to ride fast, end to end in either direction.
[Reply]

Without the blowdowns, this would be the flowiest trail in the riding area. Still a blast to ride - it's well worth navigating the blowdowns, which come rapid-fire and are condensed.
[Reply]

How big are the blow downs in diameter? I can take a run by with the Silky Saw this week.
[Reply]

Wow, that’s really nice of you. They are all in the section between the road and Pine Cutoff. I’m not one for great diameter estimates, but the first one is the largest at approx 2 feet around. The rest are smaller. One has a ride-around working.
[Reply]

Might be a bit big for the Silky hand saw.But I'll take a swing by in the next few days anyhow. Thanks!

Now that Waterhole 14 is on the map, I can tell you that all the blowdowns are between the road and Waterhole 14.
[Reply]

Was that you who cleared the blowdowns? Great job. THANK YOU!!!
[Reply]

Wasn’t me. I ended up with a shoulder injury keeping me on road and gravel for the most part.

Oh wow, hope you feel better. Here's a big thank you to whoever it was!

Trail Sunset Lake Trail
Northwest corner of this trail is pretty much expert terrain - steep plunge that rockets you across a bridge.
