Sep 24, 2026 @ 5:33pm (America/Los_Angeles) Sep 24, 2026 | Large tree down after the left hander with really loose sand. You can’t really walk over it but there’s a fall line to walk around it. | Dry | view
Jun 25, 2026 @ 7:30am (America/Los_Angeles) Jun 25, 2026 | Bear sighting at Brown Mountain lower saddle 615pm-ish 6/24/2026. It walked down the upper trail towards a group of around 10 riders at the benches before taking a right and disappearing into the bushes. Didn't seem too afraid even though we were a big group. | Ideal | view

May 18, 2026 @ 8:55pm (America/Los_Angeles) May 18, 2026 | Poodle dog bush is starting to leave minimal amount of room for getting thru some sections without accidental contact. This is above the junction on the way up to Ken Burton. | Ideal | view
May 8, 2026 @ 9:06pm (America/Los_Angeles) May 8, 2026 | Always a fun ride. Barely any people. Beautiful views at the top. I recorded this video: https://youtu.be/o3usIJO6I7c | Dry | view
Apr 13, 2026 @ 11:41am (America/Los_Angeles) Apr 13, 2026 | One of my favorite, flowy trails. It's not difficult at all, but super fun and can be done on a gravel bike. Here's a video I took. I time stamped it so you just see the downhill part. Also I mislabeled it. I didn't actually do Ken Burton trail. https://youtu.be/4fajtwYoQoY?si=j4xR5OrgzF12t7K5&t=2383 | Ideal | view
Mar 25, 2026 @ 3:57pm (America/Los_Angeles) Mar 25, 2026 | I am a visitor to the SoCal area, and only get to ride this trail every two years or so. I will say that they (fern tuck trail, El Preito) seem exactly the same as before the fires. Regulars may comment that there are small changes, they are probably right, but I thought I would share with the community that from my point of view...the every other year guy...the trail is unchanged by the fires. | Ideal | view

Dec 15, 2025 @ 2:01pm (America/Los_Angeles) Dec 15, 2025 | Ridden 12/6/2025: Trail is still mostly smooth due to the plowing it received nearly a year ago. However, the serious erosion that narrowed down the trail from a fire road down to a singletrack near the 2-mile mark is still growing. Someone did install a drainage diversion dyke just uphill from this problem condition (thank you!), however there is still a significant runoff coming down the side slope (not down the trail), from the switchback above. Also, some selfish ahole thought it would be acceptable to leave behind his lunch trash next to a bench at the 3.3 mile saddle, because some of his trash was biodegradable. Now the rest of us have to look at it while sitting on the bench, swatting away the flies that are attracted to the mess. | Ideal | view

Jun 16, 2025 @ 6:13am Jun 16, 2025 | Ridden 6/13/2025: Although the trail has been converted back to a full-width fire road after the Altadena fire earlier this year and is fully open, there is significant damage to the newly graded trail after the nominal rains we have had since the fire. In several locations, erosion has been cutting into the regraded trail at few locations where runoff flows over the edge, with the biggest damage occurring just before the 2-mile mark from the JPL bridge. There the damage is so severe, the double track has been reduced to a singletrack after only few rainstorms. At this rate, the trail will fully wash out after the 2025/2026 rain season. | Dry | view

Apr 12, 2025 @ 2:03pm Apr 12, 2025 | Wiped clean and widened. Gravel and sand. Fast going up, very loose down. | Dry | view
Apr 12, 2025 @ 2:01pm Apr 12, 2025 | Virtually unchanged by the fires. A little loose but running well. A couple sections of trail have narrowed slightly, that’s it. | Dry | view
Apr 4, 2025 @ 1:08pm Apr 4, 2025 | Trail reopened today 4/4/2025. Entire trail has been bulldozed. Trail is wide and clear. | Dry | view
Apr 4, 2025 @ 1:08pm Apr 4, 2025 | Trail reopened today 4/4/2025. Trail is running great despite being closed for a few months. There's a tree leaning against the side of the trail near the bottom. Taller riders will probably need to duck. | Ideal | view |
