Trail 1513 is a ridgeline descent in the Rattlesnake backcountry that's got it all. Steeps, exposure, rocky sections, creek crossings, and tight switchbacks on singletrack that climbs then descends through lodgepole forest.

To access this trail, look for a vague cut-off trail with a cairn heading north as you approach Sheep Mountain from the south. This trail sees only occasional use due to deadfall but when cleared, it is a slightly shorter route to the East Fork of Rattlesnake Creek #514 than riding over the summit of Sheep Mountain. The trail follows the prominent ridge to the north of Sheep Mountain before joining the East Fork Trail. Check in with the Forest Service or the local trail group (MTB Missoula) for information on the condition of this trail.

Access Info

Drive north out of Missoula on Van Buren into the Rattlesnake valley and follow signs to the main recreation trailhead. From there, ride up Woods Gulch to the start of trail 513.
