Upper Big Boulder (Under Construction) #11E10

Completing previous comment! The trail descends as a single track as you leave the Big Boulder double track, it crosses the double track again and switches back to cross it again (about a third of way down) at that second crossing of double track the trail shows as good, but it is not yet complete. To ride down follow the double track a while and the two trails will eventually rejoin right at the old almost buried timbers that mark the old hard rock mine there. If you look the bushes to the right you’ll see how the trail is coming along, it was just a bed of hacked madrone when I tried to cross it! BUT don’t be put off this whole climb and descent starting from the shuttle drop off above packer saddle is epic. You climb off the saddle north from there and pick up the old pacific crest trail section they rerouted and now allow bikes on (the gold valley rim trail) stunningly beautiful views of the lakes basin, then drop the gold valley OHV TO PAULEY CREEK OHV for just a short hop till you hit the Big Boulder double track. If you’ve only done the Downieville Classic run then this one is well worth adding. Do not be put off by e-bike comment. It’s a 2k ish climb added compared to the downhill classic but I did it in my early 60s on an old Bullet and I ain’t no weekend warrior! Epic on an ebike too. Have fun

CONFIRMING THE MID SECTION IS INCOMPLETE AS OF 24th June 2024 when I tried to ride it based on it showing as a trail in trailforks. The part that is not complete looks like a trail at the entry where it crosses

DO NOT ride this trail from the top. I dont know why it's listed on trailfroks and elsewhere. This trail is not currently compete (as of June 2024). Ride mineshaft to bih boulder that is a great trail. The portions of big boulder above the mineshaft junction are unrideable the trail us not complete and includes a long section of somewhat uncut bushes that are terrible to try to traverse through. Just don't do it until you hear otherwise. The rest of the trail (mineshaft junction and below) is great.
