The Bilk Mountain Trail #232 starts at the high saddle junction with the Cayuse Mountain Trail #235 and contours below the south side of Bilk Mountain with some small climbs and descents. At the final ridge it begins a long downhill with the top half in rocky open meadows and the bottom half next to a creek. Most of the descent has decent sight lines so you can really let it loose There are a couple creek crossings and a gate before the trail ends at Avalanche Gulch Road. The trail is blazed with white reflectors, which are helpful in a few grassy spots where it is hard to follow.

Near the bottom there is a very steep pitch with a mandatory drop, be prepared!

The lower trailhead is clearly signed on Avalanche Gulch Road, off Canyon Ferry Road east of Helena.
