This is a multi-use trail and riders may encounter pedestrians on the trail. For those that prefer dirt over gravel, both ends are the main trail for accessing the various zones of the park. Traffic does move in both directions as well.

Starting at the trail hub by the WPA structure with Stepdown, the trail turns left and into a short straight before Stepdown continues straight as Chimneys branches off to the left. It turns to the left and passes an old WPA structure before diving downhill with large rollers into a natural berm. The rollers throughout the trail can be pumped by beginner riders, but more experienced riders will enjoy trying various double jump possibilities whether it's a single to double, double to single, or even a triple.

Ripping around the berm will lead to another set of rollers that can be rolled or jumped either as singles or a double. Momentum carries the rider up a slight incline and turns left for a descent into a diving hillside turn that riders can carve around with an aggressive lean. The trail rises up again and turns right for another series of descending rollers followed by another natural berm to the left. The trail rises upon the exit of the berm and riders can utilize the natural hillside to ride up into the backslope with momentum carrying them to another speed building descent that turns to the left and more rollers present themselves after turning back to the right.

The trail flows back to the left and descends once more before it bottoms out in a right hand turn that leads to the climb that passes under the takeoff platform for Hay Loft. Watch for riders going down the takeoff ramp. The trail curves up the hill to the gravel and then passes under the takeoff ramp. A gentle recovery zone will bring riders to a fun option.

On the right, a stepdown jump off the top of an old explosives bunker. A hipped jump to the right immediately follows. Both features are optional and easy to go around using the trail that southbound riders would use. It meanders through the trees before a mild climb to one of the trail hubs along the gravel. Turn right before the gravel begins for the main XC climb to the top and riders will pass the remains of an old farmhouse. The climb is gentle and generally parallels the gravel trail as both contour left around the hill. Chimneys ends when it rejoins the Crushed Limestone Trail at the top of the hill near the start of the Beginner Flow Zone with the parking lot visible across Huntoon Road.
