Ahh, the Red Loop. Is it Isle du Bois Loop D's little sibling, big sibling, or second cousin twice-removed? Maybe it's all three. Who knows? The two trails are comparable due to topography, geographic location, and black diamond rating. The Red Loop's single track features plenty of loose rock, coupled with twists and turns, and a few meaty rock gardens, all under a hardwood forest. The section near water's edge is particularly chunky. The occasional loose scrabble climb will get your heart rate up--but don't get too excited, the descents will peter out before your heart rate subsides. DNA results aside, the Red Loop is just like a family reunion--either you love it, or you can't wait for it to be over.
